Pochette: 'Violin' shaped model, Probably English circa 1760, school of Barratt possibly.
Description:
Condition: This instrument is not restored, there is no need for it to have been, it is in 'museum quality' condition: ie 'original'. Varnish of a table a darker brown, some ageing on the top only, the lighter body and neck varnish in very good condition, with post in place, and pegs are the originals, and work well. The bridge is a newer replacement, the body from a one-piece carved and contoured block ie 'ribs' and back are all carved from one block, integral also with the neck, with out-turned violin corners, and original fingerboard and tailpiece. This pochette is playable, and could be sold with a new set of correctly gauged gut strings fitted at cost, or as it is now, ie for display/collection only.
